Following today’s announcement that the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its role in the country’s transition to democracy. ARTICLE 19’s Tunisia Office Director, Saloua Ghazouani Oueslati says:
“ARTICLE 19 welcomes the announcement that the Tunisian national dialogue quartet has been awarded the 2015 Nobel peace prize. These brave organisations have helped Tunisia achieve a transition into a democracy, and have demonstrated the tremendous part that civil society can play in bringing about peace and stability.”
“The quartet’s efforts in reaching political agreement have helped deliver legislation promoting freedom of expression and right to information in Tunisia. ARTICLE 19 hopes this important moment of recognition will spur further progress in human rights in Tunisia, and serve as an inspiration for crucial work on UN-backed political dialogue now taking place in Libya.”
