The post-2015 agenda presents an opportunity to build respect for the right to freedom of expression and information into the heart of the development agenda for the next 15 years.

ARTICLE 19 has launched the new website, www.empoweringdevelopment.org, that builds on the right to information and development in order to secure these rights in the final post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN is currently undertaking a process on developing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These will set out the priorities in the global development agenda for the next 15 years, starting in 2016 and are intended to replace the Millennium Development Goals which end in 2015.

Countries agreed to develop the SDGs at the Rio+ 20 Summit in the Outcome Document in June 2014.  The Outcome Document also made a number of other commitments including revising the UN system on development, increasing transparency and public participation and protecting human rights.
