ARTICLE 19 welcomes the launch of a new internet platform hosted by the Council of Europe aimed at protecting journalism and promoting the safety of journalists.
The platform, launched on 2 April in partnership with ARTICLE 19, the Association of European Journalists, the European Federation of Journalists, the International Federation of Journalists and Reporters Without Borders, will publicise violations of journalistic rights, alerting Council of Europe institutions to threats to freedom of expression in the 47 Council of Europe Member states.
The platform seeks to facilitate a swift response from the Council of Europe to any act that may undermine media freedom, by providing reliable information on threats to journalists’ and other media personnel; threats to the confidentiality of media sources; and political or judicial intimidation of journalists of media outlets. The platform will be updated on an ongoing basis by the five partner organisations.
Please read the Council of Europe’s Press Release about the platform.
