ARTICLE 19, along with 14 other organisations, have sent joint letters as part of the Sport for Rights campaign to the heads of the Swedish and German National Olympic Committees (NOCs) – thanking them for speaking out regarding the situation in Azerbaijan, and encouraging them to call for the release of the country’s political prisoners.
Both the head of the Swedish NOC, Mr Stefan Lindburg, and the German NOC, Dr Michael Vesperm have made comments critical of the human rights situation in Azerbaijan ahead of the European Games due to start next month in capital Baku.
