ARTICLE 19 is pleased to welcome Dr Rasha Abdulla to the organisation’s International Board of Trustees, bringing valuable expertise in freedom of expression, media, and communications to our international, regional and thematic work.
An award-winning academic, author of The Internet in the Arab World: Egypt and Beyond (Peter Lang, Inc.), and a regular contributor to high-level academic journals and publications, Rasha joins the board after years of experience as a consultant and/or trainer with UNESCO, UNICEF, the World Economic Forum, Internews, the Open Society Foundations, and other distinguished international organisations, as well as more regionally-focused institutes including Panos Institute Paris and the African Journalists’ Union.
Dr Rasha Abdulla said:
I’m honored and humbled to be appointed to the International Board of ARTICLE 19. I’ve been following the work of the organisation for years, and I have utmost respect for the amazing work that is carried out everyday, and the effects that it has on people’s lives and on promoting freedom of thought and expression worldwide.
A tenured Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at The American University in Cairo (AUC), Rasha’s research focuses on online communication; social media and political participation; media in transition; media diversity; media uses and effects and public service television.
Rasha holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, and has taught and guest-lectured at universities in Europe and the United States.
